Comments: Greetings; I wish I had known about your organization a few years ago. I had a lady friend there in Knutsford, and would have liked to join your group on outings while visiting there. I have enjoyed birding at Tatton Park and meers. I have taken some fine photos of the birds on the pond there. I am an avid birder and bander (ringer) in America. I have travelled to England Scotland, Wales, and Ireland several times. I might also be back in the near future (November?). If so, I might suggest a program about American birds and birdwatching over here. I do programs on a regular basis here, mainly to birdwatching clubs, but also to other organizations such as garden clubs, universities, Rotary, Kiwanis, even an amateur radio club annual dinner (the wives were both suprised and pleased to have a topic other than "A comparison of coaxial cable connections"). Without bravado, I can say that my programs have been well received, because I enjoy presenting them. My latest is "Gardening is for the Birds". Perhaps we can discuss this further. I don't charge not for profit groups, unless they can honestly afford to help with my expenses. Otherwise, I might ask only for a night's lodging and a field trip in the morning. Best regards, Richard Guthrie New Baltimore, The Greene County, New York USA gaeltic@capital.net

Comments: Your webpage seems to be very fast and does not trip over itself like some others I have seen, well done to the setter upper. I took the dogs for a walk around the mere on Sat 25 march for my annual pilgrimage to see the early hirundines. Very impressive ammount of Sandmartins I hope this bodes well for a good year of spotting.

Comments: Hi, I was actually looking for a set of instructions on the best ushering techniques in a church. 'Usher' on Yahoo search got me here but I am a novice bird watcher here in North Carolina so I read your funny and excellent Website and when I come to England I will come to your community. Where are you? If you come to America you can come here to North Carolina and look for birds plus other flora and fauna. We have daily tufted titmice, chickadees, gold finches, doves, cardinals, towhees, nuthatches and carolina wrens(most beatiful trill), purple finches, and the occasional hairy and downy and red belly and rarely a pileated wood pecker in our back yard. Out on our patch of farm land we have heron occasionally, pie billed grebe, indigo buntings, blue birds, yellow breasted chats, plus. At night the screech owls laugh and in the spring the red eyed whippowills are rampant. We have a great blue heron who comes fishing in our pond occasionally and somewhere along now the K ing fishers come back from the north. Come visit or write and oh yes, please send me any ushering instructions for a church you might have. Bill

Comments: I'm always keen to keep up with the toings and froings of birdlife. It seems to have always been one of my lifelong passions. The news update pages you offer are spot on. I'm still confused by a couple or three things though I wonder if anyone has the time to reply. 1. In May there were some 8 or so Thrushes on the field at the back of my house every morning. Over the next two months they all disappeared. We have had a bumper year for snails. Can this demise be put down to cats and Sparrowhawk activity, or would they have moved on? 2.I've not seen a Twite since my teens.3.There is some concern that lapwings are in decline. I travel the UK with my job and there seems to be plenty about. What is the truth?

Comments: Hi! I'm a volunteer at Audubon's Center for Birds of Prey and was wondering if you'd consider a link to our Adopt-a-Bird web site? CBOP is a raptor rescue and rehab facility, and the site contains photos and bios of 28 of the nonreleaseable birds living there...including eagles, hawks, owls, falcons, osprey, kites and vultures. The address is "http://members.aol.com/adoptabird". There's also a graphic banner link available with an animated bald eagle. You can find the banner and instructions for using it at "http://members.aol.com/adoptabird/banner.html". Thanks! :)

Comments: When I was a young man in Cheshire, I had no thought for wild birds, but now nearly forty years later in Aust.I have a garden full of brightly coloured Parrots, Whipbirds, the common but lovable Magpies that are so tame. King Parrots in rich dark green and red, Cockatoos that screetch so loudly as the fly home to roost at dusk. All are here to delight the most informed person. Not a day passes that I do not remember my life in Cheshire. God Bless Cheshire, God Bless England, and most of all, God Bless our lovely Queen, the head of our nation that is the fount of modern day civilation. Still Aust. has much to offer, the sun is hot, there is plenty of space, and we get "The Bill" on television. James Darlington a Cheshire man.

We have a few miles on the Birkin from the junction with the Bollin up to the pub near Mobberly station -- lots of interesting birds. Also enjoy the new cycle track to Lym which is v.good for arable viewing. Also fish on the river Eden Penrith to Carlisle and in Spring often see Ospreys migrating. Also the best in the North for early swallows, This year, 1998, first seen end of March. There is always aan early flight and then no more until end April. Nut hatch often around. Am not a friend of grey squirrels and many more garden birds since unfriendliness became positive J F O'Brien 3 Earlscliffe Court Devisdale Rd WA14 2BX 0161 941 2636 Best wishes 1999

I found you while looking for information about building bird nesting boxes - sizes, entrance size and shape, location, etc. We have a population of "normal" European birds barn owl, great tit, goldcrest, tree creepers, wren, robin, hoopoe, etc. All I've got so far is from San Francisco and it's good for bluebirds, chickadees and American robins. Why canìt I find a booklet by the RSPCB? Why can't I find the RSPCB itself? Good luck. Mike p.s. I like the "prat with a gun" quote

Sadly, I did not find anything here, but I have thoroughly enjoyed browsing your delightful site and in particular the stunning photography of Andy Harmer! Thank you for a very pleasant, peaceful hour!

Comments: I used to live in the area until I took off to Canada in 1956. I remember Knutsford well. It's where we went to school during the war. Then I went off London University with my twin sister. It's great to hear that there are so many birdwatchers in Knutsford. I well remember birding and butterflying in Delamere Forest with my dad. I hope it's still there. I loved your web page and it bought back many fond memories.
